From December 7, 2021 to January 25, 2022, CORPS ET AME GALLERY presents an exhibition dedicated to Narrative Figuration with Gundmundur Gundmunsson dit Erró.

Draftsman, painter, engraver, lithographer, mosaicist, in more than 70 years of career Erró will be interested in a diversity of techniques but also of genres such as comics, manga, cinema, advertising or even documents policies. Master in the technique of collage, he will accumulate a large quantity of images and references during his travels which will be used to create a large number of series. Erró likes to create visual shocks. Having the habit of working in cycles, his works will pass from one universe to another, creating great differences and being able to go from a series on eroticism to a second on the conquest of space.

Through the exhibition "Once upon a time ... Erró" CORPS ET AME GALLERY presents several series on comics, manga, cinema, with multiple references to the history of art.

ERRÓ, a prolific and multidisciplinary Artist:

Erró is an Icelandic Artist-Painter born in 1932. He is considered one of the co-founders and pioneer of the Narrative Figuration movement, a movement that emerged during the 1960s in France . A versatile artist, Erró studied plastic arts and mainly painting at the Fine Arts in Reykjavík and Oslo from 1949 to 1952, then mosaic at the Fine Arts in Florence in 1955. In these different schools, he specialized in everything. first in the cut paper technique before devoting himself to the mosaic. Erró is an extremely prolific artist, in more than 70 years of career he will be interested in a variety of techniques such as mosaic, drawing, painting, collage, engraving or even ceramics. From 1958, the technique of collage will take a very important place in his production, in particular because of the speed of creation of his compositions. Today, according to a recent estimate, the Artist would have produced more than sixteen thousand watercolors but also more than thirty thousand collages !

What is Narrative Figuration:

Narrative Figuration is an emerging movement in the early 1960s in France. This movement marks a strong comeback of figurative painting as well as a new form of historical painting after a period largely dominated by Abstraction. This current presents a new generation of artists, mainly active after the Second World War, who knew how to impose a politically engaged painting but also to restore its letters of nobility to the figurative genre. This current takes place in a difficult historical context marked by the Cold War, the expansionist policy of the United States in Europe and in France. Against Abstraction, Narrative Figuration is also a reaction to American Pop Art. Indeed, although these two trends have certain points in common such as the influence of popular culture such as comics, cinema or advertising, Narrative Figuration stands out for the political commitment of the artists. Erró very quickly established himself as the leader of the group and of this artistic genre, due to his skills, the quality of his production, his keen vision of the world as well as the popular enthusiasm he arouses at each of his exhibitions.
