The theme of SMART 2022: trees.

This time I chose to show mainly paintings of trees. These are paintings that respect trees, their shape, their geometry, their color. In the long run, I am struck by the enormous difference in the time it takes my brain to "see and recognize a tree" - that is to say very little because it is almost immediate - and the considerable concentration that 'I have to deploy it in order to draw and paint it in consciousness (if you want to “pay attention” to what you are doing, and not just copy a pre-existing “symbol”).

Maybe the tree shouldn't hide the forest, but then the branch and its twig shouldn't hide the tree either, just as the leaf shouldn't hide the twig and so on. And as my painting has focused on the marvelous game of hiding to see better, or trying to see what is hidden by moving, trees have become one of my favorite subjects of study! Now I think we are wired to live next to trees, to see between the spaces they leave us and that's why we can perceive them as entities. Entities who seem to lead an existence parallel to ours and who undoubtedly deploy precious non-verbal codes to help life on this earth. Then receive these few paintings as an attempt to connect with the trees: the time has come to grow with them!
