Biography
Sothea Tang is a young Cambodian artist born in 1984.
Graduated in architecture and urbanism, in 2009 Sothea Tang gives up heis career in an architecture office of Phnom Penh to devote entirely to art.
From 2015, the young artist spreads his creation field with a series of sculptures entitled «Manu» (humanity in Khmer) soon completed with the series «Devata»(divinity in Hindu and angel connotation in Khmer). He will then turn to the beauty that the divine contains.
Sothea Tang artworks are mainly composed of iron, steel and hemp sculptures, and try to represent the human development. The artist wishes to embody humanity by using materials from the planet and creating anthropomorphic shapes.
Nevertheless, the artist always keeps a global aesthetic of his contemporary artworks while enrolling deeper and deeper in the traditional Cambodian culture as a source of inspiration.
