Jean-Germain Drouais (Paris, November 25, 1763 – Rome, February 13, 1788) was a French painter, a pupil and follower of Jacques-Louis David. He had a very short life. Jean-Germain was born into a family of painters (his grandfather had been the portraitist Hubert Drouais) and received the first rudiments of art from his father, François-Hubert Drouais. He then went on to study with Nicolas Guy Brenet, an excellent teacher, although a painter with little success.
