Léonard Costello

Léonard Costello Born in May 1956, is a self-taught artist, he sees his father painting all his childhood, and naturally resumes automatisms. Through the study of the landscape, his first years of work, he learned the colors and mixtures of oil painting. He does many hyperrealistic paintings, a painted self-portrait, landscapes and still lifes, he learns the construction of forms, perspectives, and structures his gaze. To make a living, he became a painting teacher, in cultural centers, for a few years. During friendly and professional meetings with museum directors with whom his father worked, he met François Mathey, and exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in 1984 in Paris, in the “On Invitation” exhibition. With artists like Jean-Olivier Hucleux, Pierre Soulages, Pierre Alechinsky, Arman, Eduardo Arroyo, Christian Boltanski, Christian Renonciat and many others. For many years, he painted and commissioned drawings, and took part in numerous exhibitions: From 2000 to 2005: Creation of digital drawings co-signed with his father Jean-Olivier Hucleux. From 2005 to 2017: He made numerous digital drawings, charcoal and pencil drawings, and dabbled in sculpture and photography as well.
