Xavier Veilhan
France • 1963
Presentation
Born in 1963, Xavier Veilhan lives and works in Paris. He studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, then at the University of Arts in Berlin in Georg Baselitz's studio, and finally at the Institut des Hautes Études en Arts Plastiques in Paris.
His protean art uses the mediums of sculpture, painting, video, photography or installation to capture reality. Humans and animals are represented through biological and technical processes in order to form prototypes and question the contemporary world and its society of industrialisation and consumerism. His art both respects the representation of the classical ideal and blends with new technologies (such as 3D capture and lighting devices), creating an anachronism.
His work has received international recognition. It is exhibited in the most prestigious galleries in the world, and also at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la ville de Paris, the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain de Genève, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain in Strasbourg, at the Venice Biennale in 2017 and the Château de Versailles.
