Noureddine Chater is a Moroccan artist born in 1975 in Marrakech. Trained in visual arts, he was spotted at the age of 13 at the Young Painting Prize of the city of Lidice in Czechoslovakia. He exhibited solo from 1997 and has since continued presentations of his work and distinctions, such as the National Grand Prize of the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion in 2008. It is mainly in Arabic calligraphy that Noureddine Chater draws his inspiration . Through his paintings, he appropriates this heritage in his own way. In his works, the Arabic letter is part of an abstract universe, it is sublimated and at the same time sees itself stripped of all signifying power: it is form and becomes movement or color. On dense and deep shades, the signs emerge in their graphic beauty. In addition to various exhibitions in France, Portugal, Senegal and Morocco, Nourreddine Chater also claims his commitment to civil society, as an artist and vice president of the regional branch of the Mediterranean Center for the Environment.
