Geek

Who said that geek culture and art can't mix? If you're a fan of Star Wars, mangas, Marvel superheroes and DC Comics or Dragonball Z and Ninja turtles, you're not alone, many artists love them too!

Geek art, artworks, whether painting, sculpture or photography, inspired by pop culture and the Geek world, has become a contemporary art movement in it's own right. The movement has its roots in Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein's pop art. Warhol appropriated everyday objects and the celebrities of his day, such as Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, while Roy Lichtenstein's style drew inspiration from comic books. Today, much of our pop culture is made up of films (Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings), comic book characters, books and video games, and so naturally artists are turning to these new horizons. Through their art they draw us into the worlds of Luke Skywalker, Batman, Hulk or Mario and Luigi.
