The most famous character from the work of the artist Pec enters the studio of the VANGART house. POP PEC is the fruit of the creation of 4 unique pieces. We can't wait to introduce them to you!

Pec and his Knar, a love story

Pec is an artist from Lyon. Born in 1975, he is part of the second generation of graffiti artists who arrived in Lyon. You may not put a face to his name, but if you know the Lyon landscape well, you have already come across his KNAR, a generous and colorful bird, which surveys the walls, bridges and Lyon ring road.
The Knar de Pec has become a symbol: a sign of its passage in the street. In the Petit Bulletin, he explains modestly: "I assume that you are sufficiently bludgeoned with all the ads, all the slogans, everything that you can come across without realizing it and which ultimately rots your visual daily life. I put a splash of color, it affects the person, it makes him smile, I did my job".
Pec explores the full potential of street-art and aims to reach as many people as possible through its urban occupation.

POP PEC, a nod to art history

For this very local collaboration, the VANGART house and Pec honor the well-known Knar. This time embroidered, the corpulent bird is printed in 4 unique copies. Embroidered on lace, or on faded jeans, Pec continues its work of variation around its totem animal. Pec admits he no longer paints birds, except when asked. Its Knar becomes a symbol, and its colorful reproduction can only make us think of the famous work of Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol decides to paint the Marilyn Diptych a few weeks after Monroe's death. They found in it a fusion of two constant themes: death and the cult of fame. By copying the same image several times, he evokes his presence in the media. Like Andy Warhol, Pec invokes an icon. We understand, through his work, that advertising and image cravings are subjects that interest him. Moreover, the title of the work POP PEC seems to refer to the Pop Art movement, often tinged with repetitions, reproductions and bright colors.

A way of painting conducive to embroidery

The collaboration between Pec and Maison VANGART appeared as obvious on a technical level. Pec is an artist who quickly took on the flat tint as a distinctive sign: "I always preferred characters... and I was in a collective where everyone did lettering. Then the question arose of painting big and illegal: doing tiny things in the dark is complicated, and when your friends throw huge things and you throw tiny things that go unnoticed, you change your technique. flat colors, thicker strokes, to completely change the shape of my characters.”
