Presentation
Céline Jégou is a “collector” according to the meaning given to it by contemporary artist Annette Messager. Pieces of fabric, embroidered braid, threads, buttons… she never threw anything away. If she has always recognized the talent of small hands, she embroiders herself, her pop culture having led her to revisit this despised popular art. She diverts needlework to give them a second, more fun life. Céline's dogs are the meeting of Jeff Koons' balloon dog and vintage canvases recovered from flea markets. She uses so-called poor materials, such as paper pasted for the shape, the boneless tapestry of its frame as a coat. Vintage pop mixed with Italian arte povera, its animals hesitate to find a niche: art, decoration, provocation?
Céline, anti-Penelope happily occupying her time while waiting for Ulysses, does not care.
Sewing, as an artistic activity, can seem outdated. But from the start of this seamstress granddaughter it was "rock'n'roll".
Like her first Breton costume, embroidered with the help of her grandmother: “I wanted it with lots of pearls, diamonds. It looked more like Christian Lacroix than a traditional Breton outfit. I caused a sensation at the Cornouaille festival! "
Céline Jégou lives and works in Dinan.
