Neo-Geo

Neo-Geo conceptualism is an artistic movement that originated in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The movement was marked by a departure from traditional painting and sculpture, focusing instead on the use of a wide variety of media, including photography, video, performance art, and installation art. The term “neo-geo" came from a combination of the words “neo", meaning “new", and “geo", meaning “earth". This movement is considered to be a reaction against the minimalist art of the 1960s and 1970s.

Neo-geo conceptualism is rooted in the idea that art can be found in any form, and that it is not bound to the traditional conventions of painting and sculpture. This movement was heavily influenced by the works of Marcel Duchamp, who embraced the concept of readymades, or everyday objects that can be used as art. Neo-geo conceptualism also drew from the philosophies of postmodernism, which sought to challenge conventions and move away from traditional artistic expression.

In its early stages, neo-geo conceptualism was characterized by an emphasis on process rather than product. Artists focused on the creative process of creating art, rather than simply producing a finished product. They often explored themes such as identity, consumerism, and technology. These themes were often expressed through the use of digital media, video, and photography.

Today, neo-geo conceptualism has evolved and taken on a variety of forms, including interactive art, sound installations, and interactive performances. The movement continues to challenge conventions and explore the boundaries of art. It is a vibrant, ever-evolving artistic movement, and continues to be a source of inspiration and innovation in the art world.
