Biography

Olivier Grunewald is part of the great lineage of explorer photographers. He began his career in mountain sports, following high-level climbers at the end of a rope. Inspired by the American school, those of the landscapers, Ansel Adams, David Muensh, he undertook a long work across North America then Australia, making his photos in the large format camera. Photographer Galen Rowell, for whom light transcends the subject, particularly influences. Since then he has continued to pursue this quest for magical, intense lights to magnify his subject. His various reports have earned him the award of the Fondation de la Vocation, the prestigious World Press Photo four times and the international award of Wildlife Photographer of the Year several times. He also directs several documentaries. The last, Dallol, at the borders of life has been broadcast since autumn 2016. The manifestations of the natural world exert a real fascination on Olivier Grunewald and keep his passion intact: “Photographing is as much a goal as a pretext for immersing myself. at the heart of the forces of Creation.
