Jean-Marc Brunet

France • 1970

Biography

"It is a work of rest and fury, of sweetness and violence."

This mixture is astonishing, it makes all the originality of the writing of the painter. There is a flagrant contradiction between the sovereign elegance of the backgrounds and the feverish spurts of signs, which one would say are close to a certain Abstract Expressionism.

It is a work of great beauty when the chromatic harmony is present. One draws from it an energy which has all the depth of the poets.

"It is in fact a work of pictorial memory. One could almost say transgenerational juice. I am fascinated by the successive appearances that occur on canvas or paper. As I have a great mistrust for anything that could be a recipe or a know-how, I try to fall, trying not to let myself be carried away... It's the dance on the edge that's exciting."
