Biography

A graduate of the University of Plastic Arts in Saint-Etienne, Odile van den Woldenberg devotes herself and fully invests in painting at the end of her studies. Born in 1970 in Annecy, she lives and works in Paris. Very strongly inspired by his years spent in Japan, his work has itself turned towards the traditional and ancestral side of this country. Attracted by the culture, symbolism and colors of kimonos, her paintings are imprinted with calligraphy directly taken from Japanese collections of ancient poems or Noh texts. The geishas, their deep, white necks, and the theatrical masks allow her a different approach to the portrait that she likes to work. East and West, tradition and modernity mingle in sets of framing, reframing, which undoubtedly recall the photographic technique in which she was trained.
