Muriel Persil

Multidisciplinary artist, born in 1966, Muriel Persil studied at the Beaux Arts in Paris as well as at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and at the painter Sotomayor's studio where she developed a taste for anatomy, the nude and the portrait.

Decorative painter, trained and graduated from CNACFAG, she has for many years exercised this professional activity in parallel with that of painter, exhibiting regularly in France (Paris, Montpellier, Céret, Perpignan) and in Spain (Barcelona, Girona ).

But in 2013, settled in the south of France, she decided to devote herself to sculpture through ceramics. If she does it as an autodidact, she very quickly masters this art and medium and develops in space her universe in which strangeness and ambiguity reign supreme. Indeed, his sculpted or painted work is imbued with the same sense of the hidden, of elsewhere where symbolism occupies a large place.

It is also in the imagination, the fantastic and the myth that the artist nourishes his reflection on the links between man and nature and on death. And it is essentially the woman, in all her femininity, who is represented in this ambiguous relationship which metamorphoses her into vanity in a baroque and kitsch style perfectly assumed and controlled.

The woman in Muriel Persil's painting is anonymous and evanescent, frozen like a still life between the living and the dead, suspended to the passing of time, to the emptiness of human activities and passions.

With clay, the artist works on still life as close as possible to the transformation and confrontation of matter. From formless matter, she brings out her ceramic sculptures with luxuriant efflorescence or coral concretions in a more intimate and sensual way.

His works express through the idea of metamorphosis, the mysterious relationship that man has with the other living forms that surround him. They express with emotion all the beauty and diversity of living things.
