Biography
Antonio Pedretti was born in 1950 on the shores of Lake Varese. Since his first solo show at the Gallery Ca' Vegia of Varese, when he was only sixteen years old, those hazy and stagnant waters have been a costant of his pictorial concept. The damp tendernesses of the Lombard land float in a dilated and suspended space; the ample and rapid spatula's smacks allow to the pictorial material to expand and furrow in liquid atmospheres crossed by vivid light.
In Antonio Pedretti's work the informal matrix and the love for the painting matter are transfigured into in a magical and playful dimension. In his Existential Naturalism there is the whole representation of the landscape of the last two centuries of European art history. Through the informal technique he is the only one able to “tell" the landscape and to instill the same emotions felt looking at our dearest places, so familiar territories that we feel we recognize them.
