"Time is our most precious resource. She is interested in analyzing the tension between the past and the future and the contradictions they bring. Her work examines the tragedy of time's progression and grapples with questions about the nature of time, how we value it and how we can come to terms with our own futures." - Agnieszka Pilat.

Polish-born artist

Agnieszka Pilat is an award-winning oil painter. Having studied painting and illustration at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, Pilat has established herself as the painter of “tech elites" through her transcendence of traditional subject narratives. Through a formal approach, Pilat helps decaying products of human achievement transcend time.

With the emergence of late
capitalism, the fascination with all objects (not just technology) has reached
a new peak. Our sense of self has become tied to the objects we own and the
brands we choose to adorn ourselves with. To Pilat, it is a logical progression
that portraiture would once again expand to incorporate the inanimate. Yet,
this time, in an age where technology is worshiped, the objects have assumed
the status previously occupied by aristocrats in portraiture.

Pilat's portraits of
machines act as both memorial and celebration. The large scale imbues them with
a sense of grandeur. The paintings act to commemorate and celebrate the wonders
of technology. To Pilat, recording the role of machines inevitably immortalizes
America's industrial triumph. Having emigrated from Poland to America, she
believes that 'the greatness of America is the greatness of its industry'. Her
unique perspective on the American attitude to technology finds form in her
celebration of machines.

Pilat is currently artist in
residence at the USS Hornet Museum and guest artist at Autodesk Accelerator Lab
in San Francisco. Her work can be found in public an private collections in the
United States, South America, China, and Europe.
