Laverne Chisan

I rarely set out to produce a preset idea or piece of work. I begin with a blank canvas and cover it with the colors I am feeling at the moment. These colors and texture change as the canvas expresses my feelings. My influences are primarily nature, things I see (my way) and my surroundings. I use large canvasses, large brushes and my painting knives to produce the effect and texture I need for each piece. I paint in oil most of the time as it allows me to blend, build and massage the painting until the composition, color and texture fills the canvas with my vision and the movement I am satisfied with. When I feel good about the work, it is complete and ready to sign.The canvas is all important along with background, composition, movement and texture.

Education:

Mostly self taught, making use of reading materials and experimentation with different styles and mediums.
