Artist Statement: "My vessels have been a search for a spiritual connection to my daily life. The paper I mold is fibrous and fragile, yet on first inspection, the forms appear to be made of clay. I transform ordinary materials gathered from my surroundings into extraordinarily mysterious allusions of antiquity.
The resemblance to ancient basketry and pottery forms expresses my appreciation for these humble utilitarian objects resting on the dusty shelves of historical collections. My pieces honor my childhood memories of learning to collect, sew and assemble fragments of fabric, bits of paper, found objects. The walls of my vessels contain a record of process, the marks of change, the tracings of time -- my personal cultural illusion. Each work documents a layer of my life. like a patch in a quilt, a photograph in an album, an object in a box of treasures"
