Becky Holuk

Becky Holuk is a Calgary artist, who after one year of Fine Arts at the University of Regina, went on to complete the four-year Visual Communication program at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary. After working full-time in the field of graphic design and illustration for ten years, Holuk changed direction to focus solely on her passion for fine art painting.

She considers it a blessing to be part of the connection which artwork provides between artist and viewer, and has discovered that hikes and walks in the natural, majestic beauty of the Alberta Foothills, Canadian Rockies, and the West Coast are favourite times to 'observe, record and reflect' for later artistic pursuits in the studio.

When I'm painting, it's the memories of a place — the sense of atmosphere and the feelings I recall which influence and shape my creative process. As I layer paint, shapes emerge and change until the moment comes when the painting is finished and I can say yes, this is what I remember — this is the beauty and joy I experienced that particular day! I am grateful that through my artwork I can share with others the way I experience the world and the simple beauty and wonder of Life.
