Jean-Louis Bellon

Self-taught painter born in Fougères (35) in 1944. Started painting and drawing at the age of 13. The style is first of all figurative, with a Fauvist tendency due to a great admiration for the painting of Vlaminck, Van Gogh, Rouault, Cézanne.

From 1964, influences from artists such as: Soulages, Hartung, Matthieu, Debré, Arp led to a certain change in the style. The first non-figurative paintings appeared around 1968.

Workshop work in 1994 with the painter Marc Champieux, and in 1995 with Renaud Archambault allowed the style to be affirmed.

Who has not observed one day what traces man leaves on a daily basis: footsteps on the earth, scratches on stone, the projection of the shadow of a body on a wall. “The act of painting seems to me the expression of this transience; it allows you to tell your story, to show yourself and to transmit it to others."
