Presentation

Jérôme Bost is a French artist born in 1942. He is accepted in 1960 at the Beaux-Arts in Le Havre and then he joins the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris.
The year 1962 finds him in Florence. The spirit of the Tuscan Renaissance marks him deeply.

The he moves to Paris, where he stays from 1963 to 1969; he is interested in the work of the major forerunners of contemporary art: Bacon, de Kooning, Giacometti, Mousteguy and practices an expressionist painting in which the gesture is essential, all the while searching for his own pictorial expression. He collaborates as a graphic designer to the first color TV shows with Jean-Christophe Averty.

In 1969 he goes to Japan. It is the beginning of four-year journey in the far east, during which he works on studies of nature in oil pastel.

In 1973, he settles in the Haute-Provence and he embarks on a 20-year journey of methodical research, in oil pastels, on his relationship with the landscape.

In 1993 he begins a survey on the city in Paris (views of the streets) as a continuation of his previous work.

Since 1999, he has a new theme - the ocean. Then Paris again, but this time seen from above, as a sea at his feet.

He is represented by the Albert Loeb Gallery in Paris and the Sakiko Gallery in New York.
