Giorgos Dermentzis

Giorgos Dermentzis was born in northern Greece in 1975. He moved to Thessaloniki when he came of age to begin his studies at the Fine Arts. Graduated in Theater Scenography, he dedicated himself to 3D architectural drawing and joined a specialized firm. Francophile, he is particularly attached to Paris, where his brother settled at the end of the 90s. He first discovered the city as a tourist. In 2015, in the midst of the Greek crisis and after looking for the ideal country, he left his native land for good and settled in Paris. There, he deepened his taste for photography and began to walk the streets on the lookout for lost glances or small pieces of history. His work is quickly noticed: first on social networks, it is then supported by a gallery exhibiting emerging talents (Melkart Gallery, Paris). Always in search of new challenges and recognition, he participates in many competitions, his photographs are awarded many times. From Moscow to Sao Paolo, where he was selected for the 5th Salão d'Outono da América Latina, his work on Parisian souls attracts attention. The unforgettable figures of Diane Arbus, the world of Tim Burton and the spontaneity of Henri Cartier-Bresson are all inspirations that nourish Georgios' photographs. The snapshot taken on the sly giving even more force, the naked truth of a Paris, between postcard and anticipatory report, is then revealed. In 2017, the Pijama Galerie exhibits Georgios Dermentzis, and highlights the psychological dimension of his work and reveals the documentary force of his work. In the continuity, he is a candidate for the HCB and Fidal Prizes for documentary photography.
