Yo Ichikawa was born in 1929 in the province of Hiroshima in Japan. He studied at the Kyoto School of Art, Japan. He was active as a painter and engraver from 1966 in Paris. Lise Cormery writes her biography in Post-War Art de l'Ecole de Paris. Personal exhibitions in Paris and Tokyo.
His Six Iconographic Works are in the National Library of France. Alain Peyrefitte writes about his work "Perhaps we had never gone as far as Yo Ichikawa in the search for mathematical abstraction. It is more than abstract art.
It is algebraic art, since it combines possible arrangements such as the different solutions of an equation with multiple unknowns.
It is geometrical art, since the figures of geometry hover and even, in trompe-l'œil, geometry in space, are articulated to each other. An art by which mathematical schemes, which seemed to turn their backs on art, are reconciled with it. "
