Milburn-Foster
United Kingdom • 1943
Presentation
Milburn Foster was born in North Wales at the end of 1943.
His father, who was an excellent draughtsman, taught him drawing and painting from a very early age. His father was also a very fine watercolor artist and he grew up learning his father's techniques.
Later, he went to art school in London, but soon after leaving he became interested in filmmaking and worked as a film director for almost thirty years.
Throughout his time in films, he also continued to work as an artist and he has always been fascinated by the moving image, especially the human figure in motion. Now he is committed entirely to his painting and in trying to create the illusion of movement in a static image.
Although he started by using the sequence photographs of the early photographer Eadweard Muybridge as source material, he now uses still frames from videos he has made himself of models and professional dancers performing nude in his studio.
