Description
From the series The Hanging Man, this piece takes on the romanticized figure of the cowboy — rugged, proud, built for endurance. But here, the stoic myth is silenced. No final duel, no gallop into the sunset. Just stillness, and a rope.
The boots are dusty, the shirt still proud, but the pose betrays a different truth: the silent collapse of masculinity held together by myth. This isn't a fall from grace. It's the absence of it.
The cowboy used to die on his feet. Now he just hangs there. Quietly. Unseen.
Presentation
Papayon (Roberto Fernando Salmon) is a Latin American contemporary artist whose work challenges comfort and embraces contradiction. His mixed media pieces — often combining encaustic, oil, cyanotype, and reclaimed materials — explore themes of resilience, trauma, and spiritual rebellion. Driven by symbolism and emotional rawness, Papayon believes art's power lies in its ability to unsettle, ignite, and reflect what we often ignore. His studio is based in Houston, TX, with cross-border visibility in the U.S. and Mexico.
