Description
Abstraction is expressed here by a play of striking chromatic contrasts.
The acrylic is spread on the canvas in broad areas. An intense red dominates the composition. It asserts itself in the center in the form of a dense and luminous block.
This colored core stands out from a dark background. Shades of brown and black surround the central element. They create an ambiguous depth. A vertical red band borders the silhouette on the left, balancing the structure.
The eye glides down the composition. A dark horizontal line stabilizes the image.
The work focuses on the tension between darkness and light. The material is applied with precision. Each delimited area reinforces the geometric rigor of the whole.
This painting dates from 195. It illustrates a formal research focused on the purity of colors and the strength of the surfaces.
Presentation
Jean-Claude Coutaz was born in 1944 in Saint-Maurice VS. He began his studies at the Collège de Saint-Maurice following the classical Latin-English track, continued them at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (EPFL) from which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
It was in 1972 that he settled in Sion with his wife and opened his own engineering office.
JCC began painting in 1980 and since then his technique has continued to evolve.
