In this work, Alain depicts a felucca gliding on calm water, stirred by an irregular wind. The triangular sail, ample and luminous, occupies a central place in the composition. Its inclination and tension reflect the whims of the wind, while a crew member, precariously balanced at the bow, adjusts the rigging with concentration. The vertical framing accentuates the slender mast and the height of the sail, giving the painting a sense of elevation and lightness. The fine lines of the rigging interact with the suggested curves in the background, creating a restrained and contemporary graphic style. The paper collage lends the sail a vibrant, subtly irregular texture that captures the light and reinforces the airy dimension of the scene. The oil paint, applied with a transparent technique, reveals these reliefs and establishes warm and luminous tones. The inclusion of sand adds a subtle vibration to the surface, evoking the reflections on the water and the materiality of the landscape.
