Description
“What the water keeps #2” is an evocative abstract painting from the collection “Driftwood”. This collection is triggered by the artist's current home in Friesland with its dykes, seascapes, harbours and wide pastures. It reflects things carried by water, weathered but not destroyed, displaced yet finding a place, remnants that become beautiful, movement and stillness, land and sea, fragility and endurance. Many of these aspects suface in this artwork.
Muted olive and ochre tones dominate the canvas. Broad, sweeping brushstrokes create a sense of depth and movement. The composition balances heavy gestural masses with delicate, spindly lines, suggesting organic forms.
The artist wants the painting to evoke feelings, memories and images … stimulating an emotive recall to the conscious mind. You are invited to explore and discover your own meaning.
Presentation
Born in the then Soviet Union, Eremeeva has lived and worked in the Netherlands, Belgium, the United States and Italy. Her artistic language has been shaped by movement across these cultures and landscapes — experiences that continue to inform the atmosphere and emotional resonance of her work.
Originally working figuratively, Eremeeva gradually developed what she describes as an “evocative abstract” language — paintings that seek not to define meaning, but to awaken feeling, memory and reflection. Influenced by literature, silence and the fleeting nature of experience, her work moves between abstraction and suggestion, inviting viewers into spaces that feel both intimate and open.
Drawing inspiration from themes of transience, impermanence, mortality and remembrance, Eremeeva’s paintings seek not to illustrate fixed meanings but to awaken something within the viewer: a feeling, a memory, an image or emotional trace.
