Description
A reception scene unfolds in a bright kitchen, animated by several characters. On the left, a person is busy near the worktop; in the center and right, silhouettes gather around an island where glasses, bottles, dishes and utensils line up. Gestures are guessed more than they are detailed, and some faces blend into the brushstrokes. The blacks of the clothes and the island structure the composition, while the whites, the bluish grays and a few warm touches suggest the light and agitation of the place. The forms sometimes seem to overlap or fragment: the scene evokes less a frozen moment than a memory of conviviality, grasped in the middle of conversations and preparations.
Presentation
Born in 1961 Jean Marie Drouet is graduated from the Fine Arts School of Angoulême. He likes drawing and making lot of photos before beginning a painting. He is inspired by contemporary photography and film culture that gives him an optimistic look on the world.
Referring to the American realistic painters such as N.C Wyeth or Edward Hopper, life’s scenes and characters are his favorite subjects. He is also fascinated by strong light contrasts and minimalistic settings. Sunlight is everywhere in Jean Marie Drouet paintings showing us the beautiful side of life.; his painting is quiet and bright aiming the beauty of the present time.
