Description
Some stories are never told aloud. They live in the eyes, in the silence between words, and in the parts of ourselves that language cannot fully explain.
Language of the Unspoken explores identity, culture, and the quiet strength of human expression. Through the subject's gaze, traditional patterns, and vibrant colours, the work reflects how we communicate beyond speech. The patterns surrounding her represent the stories, memories, and experiences that shape who we are.
The checkerboard in her hair adds a sense of strategy and choice.
Rooted in Yoruba visual identity, the work asks what we carry without saying, and who is willing to read it.
It reminds us that silence does not mean the absence of a voice.
Sometimes, the deepest expressions are the ones we feel but cannot explain.
Presentation
Fadahunsi Akintomiwa Joseph, also known as Orthodox Arts, is a contemporary Nigerian visual artist and painter born in 2001.
At the heart of the artist’s practice is a commitment to Black Art, specifically an exploration of individuality in Black identity through the use of stripes. Working from a studio in Nigeria, the artist uses bold vertical lines as a signature visual element to represent cadence, structure, and the unique rhythms of Black life.
For the artist, Black Art is not merely an aesthetic choice. It is a vital vehicle for celebrating human dignity, cultural heritage, and personal expression.
