Description

Kamysh-Burun Bay. Kerch
Oleksandr Khrapachov (b. 1981) • 2013 • Oil on canvas • 80×100 cm
Kerch is one of the oldest cities in Europe. Once, the ancient Panticapaeum, the capital of the Bosporan Kingdom, stood here, and for two and a half millennia, the shores of this strait were touched by Greek seafarers, Roman legions, and trade caravans. It is into this long history that Oleksandr Khrapachov weaves his landscape.
Kamysh-Burun Bay stretches across the border of the city center and its outskirts. A wide arc of water gently embraces the shore, and further out, the city gradually dissolves into the vastness of the sea and sky. For the artist, this is a place where history, daily life, and recreation merge into a single image: the port and industrial scale remind us of progress, while the open, tranquil surface of the bay grants a sense of peace.
The artwork was painted en plein air, directly from life. This is felt in every detail: in the living air of the coastal town, in the shifting light that changes the color of the water minute by minute, and in the free breathing of space. Such an impression cannot be invented in a studio; it can only be captured right on the shore, with an easel and an open heart.
Two great schools meet in Khrapachov's style. Academicism provides a solid drawing, a well-thought-out composition, and a deep respect for form. Impressionism adds color vibration, a bold brushstroke, and the ability to freeze the moment when sunlight touches the water. Oil paints on canvas give the image depth and a velvety richness, making the water surface seem to change along with your mood and the lighting in the room.
This painting will become an adornment for a living room, an office, a lounge, or a reception area. A marine landscape brings freedom, light, and peace into an interior, helping one to escape the hustle and bustle and mentally step onto the shore. It is also a worthy gift for people who love the sea, travel, and genuine painting.
This large-format canvas (80×100 cm) is an author's original, not a copy or a print. The artwork is featured in the artist's personal monograph, Oleksandr Khrapachov. Painting, Drawing (Kyiv: Sofiya-A, 2015), which confirms its artistic value and adds a strong provenance, vital for a collector. By purchasing this work, you welcome a piece of the living history of an ancient city into your space and the opportunity to see the sea every day, even if it is far away.
