Description
The work relies on a marked contrast. The figures, small and fragile, align themselves against the immensity of a neutral background. A few colored parasols punctuate the scene. They bring touches of red, blue, and yellow that rhythm the horizontal reading.
The technique mixes acrylic and sand. This mixture brings an organic texture to the surface, reinforcing the mineral aspect of the setting. The work explores solitude and the place of the individual within a vast environment.
Silence seems to settle around these characters. Each simple shape suggests a wait or a wandering. The light is diffuse, uniform, accentuating the effect of temporal suspension. This diptych focuses on the search for freedom through a stripped landscape. The whole ends with an invisible horizon line, giving way to a sandy expanse.
Presentation
From the beginning, Marcos Zrihen's artistic reflection revolves around the place of man in his environment, in particular in the urban environment. Today his work turns around the emptiness and loneliness of big spaces. Whether in cities or by the sea, the lanscapes protray by the artist are always vast, populated by small characters whose stretched shadows reflect the misguidance. Two recent trips to the Sinai Desert and to the Australian Plains led the artist to use these spaces in his canvases, depicting men, nature, light, silence, loneliness, worry as well. Seizing the dynamism of life, Marcos Zrihen's canvases propose us a quest for freedom.
