Biography

Anne Laure alias Ana Zulma is a graduate of the Beaux Arts de Lyon. Her artistic practice has developed around a multidisciplinary approach that gives shape to a protean and evolving work. From the early years of her career, when Ana was still an imaginary double Zulma, a totalitarian and misanthropic creature, the artist retains a deep interest in forms of self-narration and storytelling.

Exploring the genre of performance, the character of Zulma was a pretext for exorcising buried evils by reinventing ways of saying oneself and one's context through the action of the body in space. Zulma and Ana, two antitheses that come together today in the avatar of an artist/conteuse. Her recent photographic works also borrow from the performative in their realization. Each work is constructed by following a series of rituals. Ana Zulma seizes photographs of her own, of others, as one seizes a book, and observes them meticulously in search of the punctum of the image, that point in the photograph that crystallizes its plastic interpretation/reinterpretation.
