Chris Jano

n his studio located a stone's throw from the beach of Landrezac, in Morbihan, Brittany, Chris JANO paints like those navigators who once traced new navigable routes on their maps. Armed with spalters, these large flat brushes that he particularly likes, he travels the canvas by digging in the paint furrows which are as many invitations to wanderings which can be serene ballads or frantic and disorderly races. The color he sculpts and models then dialogues with the light which reveals an infinity of variations.

Soft, rough, calm or rowdy, it becomes for the artist a medium that makes the invisible visible in a multitude of new territories that he models, digs and traverses with his brushes, and on which he invites us to join him for moments of pictorial and intimate sharing. If for Henri Matisse, a painting should be like a good comfortable armchair, for Chris JANO it is certainly an inner geography that he invites us to discover at the rhythm of his brushstrokes.
