Derf

Derf is a French self-taught artist based in Gironde. His artistic journey began in the early 2000s when he was introduced to the world of graffiti.

However, this was only the beginning of his artistic exploration. Inspired by photography, Derf quickly developed a deep interest in figurative art. He turned to creating female portraits, seeking to capture the complexity and beauty of human nature by seeking out the uniqueness of each woman.

His artistic approach also led him to use drawings by the famous American pop art painter Roy Lichtenstein. He thus dared to confront elements of the American pop art movement with his own artistic vision, thus creating a unique fusion.

It was around 2017/2018 that Derf decided to work directly with photographs to give more realism to his creations. This artistic turn allowed him to develop the distinctive style that characterizes him today. Her work lies somewhere between realism and illustration, highlighting portraits of women and animals. Passionate about drawing, Derf taught himself to master the behavior of light, colors, framing, perspectives, all without having formally studied art. Once he felt ready, he decided to share his talent with the world by exhibiting his works in urban space. He thus developed a unique style and his own artistic identity, without being influenced by conventional artistic trends. Over the past few years, Derf has meticulously selected the most visible locations in cities to highlight his portraits. He likes to compare his works in a certain dichotomy between the real and the imaginary. He uses the contrast between black and white and bright colors to deconstruct and deconstruct female faces, thus highlighting the duality of each individual.

Derf's art is open to interpretation, and everyone is invited to perceive the feelings and emotions released by his creations. His unique artistic work captivates and inspires passers-by, creating a dialogue between reality and imagination.
