Biography
Born in Nice in 1932, Albert Thiry learned about ceramic during his internships in different workshops. In 1996, he entered the Tapis Vert workshop opened in 1950 by Claire and René Batigne. There he rubs shoulders with many artists especially André Verte, for whom he created some editions, and Anton Prinner from whom he learned the sculpture techniques.
The artist married Pyot Gavaudan, a model maker and decorator at the Giraud workshop. In 1962, they settled on their own behalf and created together two kinds of productions: tableware (plates, bowls, dishes...) and sculptures. Albert Thiry gained notoriety thanks to his figures that kept questioning human condition.
The artist is inspired, amongst others, by Picasso and Diego Velasquez, in particular through the series "Menines".
