Biography

Antoine Larrera was born in Paris in 1992.

He grew up in the fashion world and then became a self-taught artist. In his artistic creations, we can see a strong inspiration from the fashion shows with a marked and very singular identity of Rick Owens or those of Comme des Garçons. His passion for polymorphic bodies is rooted in the paintings of Salvador Dalí.

Antoine Larrera projects onto the canvas the (de)constructions of a reality taken from life. His ensembles are composed of figurations or digitally distorted photographs, rendered abstract by computer software manipulation. The hyper-realism of photography is then profoundly modified to create a plurality of realities. He translates the daily use we make of digital technology, i.e. capturing the real, metamorphosing it so that in the end there is no authentic element left.

His creative process resembles those distorted mirrors, which transform a known body into a strange one. The eye could detect in his paintings familiar objects, recognised spaces where Antoine Larrera places bodies from another dimension. Embodiments that he wishes to be real, of his fantasies, of his reveries, his paintings question the capacity of spaces to captivate images. It is relevant to note the personal character in the artist's work. Through his experiments, the infinitely diffracted bodies become sensual abstractions that almost escape the virtual, visual extravagances that go beyond the real.

He plays with representations to create mutant images, yet in full contact with reality, where the viewer risks losing his or her bearings.
