Biography
Grace J Monard was born in the Flemish countryside, Belgium. After living for many years in Brussels, then in London, she established herself in the South of France in 2000.
After a professional career with international companies she left that environment to dive into painting. She studied “Drawing from Dance” at the “Central St. Martin’s School of Art” in London.
She however considers herself self-taught and free of any ‘academic prescription’
She exhibits very regularly in France and abroad.
She explores the relation between Music and Painting.
As a music lover and a musician there’s a relentless search for the musical transcription by means of the paint material, movement and graphic language. No trends or fashion but rather an expression from the soul. A search for poetry. Piazzola, Beethoven, Bill Evans, Debussy, La Callas,… the vibrations aren’t the same, the correspondences between the music and the paint require an “emotional understanding” of the music. Oil and mixed media ‘draw’ a poetic and cosmic musical landscape. Words give way to silent contemplation.
The material sings.
