Gerdus Bronn

I am Gerdus Bronn, I live in Mauritius. I was born in South Africa of Dutch and German descent. My quest to create in a creative environment brought me to Mauritius. The immensity represented by the expanse of the ocean inspires me to paint the large expansive canvases that I am currently making.

As an artist, my journey began when I enrolled in the School of Art, Music and Ballet in Pretoria. I ended up at the top of my class and continued my art studies but ended up becoming a potter. I had a very successful pottery workshop and my ceramic work can be found all over the world. But painting has always been my passion and now I only focus on watercolor, encaustic and oil painting.

Life has taken me all over the world where I have sold mineral specimens and rocks to collectors. In 2015, I retired from traveling all over Africa in search of the best rocks and resumed painting. My goal is to surpass myself in order to achieve the simplicity of pure form and color. I now believe that “less is more” and I am currently working on the vastness of creation.
