Biography
Cari Gonzalez Casanova was born in 1971 in Puerto Rico. She grew up in New York and currently works between France and New York. Her practice is project based and can take many different forms, such as: participatory projects, publications, performative works, objects, videos, drawings or talks.
Her work is primarily interested in looking at how our notions of reality and/or fiction are constructed: by what forms of representation, by what strategies of seduction or authority... And questions the influence of these on our experience and perception of the world, both the personal and the collective. Modern myths such as the Bermuda Triangle, UFOs and Yetis, as well as utopian literature and architecture, do-it-yourself culture, the esthetics of activism, the use of theory in art, military history (or war simulacra), romanticism in music and in literature are some of the subjects that inform her work.
