Maurice André Kaspar

Maurice André Kaspar was born in the heart of Geneva.

He grew up at 17 de la Grand-Rue and studied at Calvin College. Also Swiss watercolourist.

From 1917 to 1946, he worked as a hygienist architect for the Republic and Canton of Geneva.

He contributed to the major urban changes, among the most important in its history, brought to the city in those years, particularly in the old town. The very beautiful watercolors of the architect are there to testify to this.

In 1936, he was one of the founding members of the Palette Carougeoise, a group of 13 artists and sculptors from Carouge. Eighty-four years after its creation, this society still brings together artists from the Sardinian city. In the 1930s, Maurice André Kaspar was commissioned by an industrialist from Carouge, Jean Belloni, to paint 33 street scenes in Carouge. They are now kept in the Museum of Carouge. One or more of these views will be on view in London. The exhibit will also include sketches and archival material that document many ancient structures and buildings, such as township mansions and farmhouses, that have disappeared or undergone significant alterations. Kaspar's paintings still bear witness to his numerous travels to other regions of Switzerland, France and Italy. Some have been marketed in the form of engravings, postcards and even puzzles, both in Switzerland and in France.
