Biography
Tony Bevan was born in 1951 in Bradford (England). He studied art in Bradford at Goldsmith's College and at the Slade School in London. His first exhibition took place in 1976, and he was part of a wave of figurative artists in Great Britain.
During the first years of his career, Tony Bevan produced portraits and self-portraits. He was making at first the sketches in charcoal and then drawing them on canvas, using colors that he prepared himself. He uses the charcoal only to draw the hair of his characters.
Tony Bevan works mainly in very large formats and produces relatively few works, about twenty every year. Today a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in London, he shows his work in galleries in the United States or in Madrid.
