Biography
Born in Edinburgh in 1962, Kenny Hunter graduated from Sculpture at Glasgow School of Art in 1987 and following that studied classical sculpture at the British School in Athens. In 2008 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Aberdeen University.
In 2013, his commission Outcast was unveiled in Borgie Forest, Scotland. In 2011 Hunter was chosen to create a new contemporary sculpture for the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, Alloway, commissioned by STV. In 2010 Kenny Hunter won the first Spitalfields Sculpture Prize. His work ‘I Goat’ is sited in Bishops Square, Spitalfields.
Hunter has also created a number of high profile, commissioned works including ‘Cherub/Skull’ (1997) for the Tron Theatre, Glasgow, ‘Man walks among us’ (2000) for Glasgow Museums, ‘Youth with split apple’ (2005) for Kings College, Aberdeen, ‘Citizen Firefighter’ (2001) outside Glasgow’s Central Station; and ‘Natural Selection’ for Great Ormond Street Hospital, London.
Kenny Hunter’s work has been acquired by the Scottish Arts Council Collection, the British School at Athens, The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow and the Scottish Parliament.
