Biography

Michelle Sank is from Cape Town, South Africa. At 25, she left the country where she was born, and since 1987 she has been working and living in England. 

She studied at the Cape Town University of Fine Arts (UCT) and obtained a degree in photography from the University of Montfort (Leicester). 

Michelle is a talented photographer who has been awarded many prizes. In 2013 she received the Gold Award from the International Photography Exhibition in San Francisco. She then won 1st place at the Kuala Lumpur International Photo Awards (2016), and in 2018, she was awarded the "honorable mention" at the IPA Awards. 

Michelle describes herself as a visual anthropologist. She documents the necessary transition from childhood to adulthood. Part of her work is also autobiographical, drawing inspiration from and exposing her own struggles with life. 

Her photographs reflect a concern for the human condition and to this end can be considered a social documentary. Through her works, she questions social and cultural diversity. 

Her way of life: "Be yourself. And if you really want something, never give up."
