Biography
Judy Rifka was born in 1945 and she became known in New York thanks to her painting practice and her videos.
She studied art at the Hunter College in Manhattan and pursued her studies at the Studio School in New-York and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
Together with Jean-Michel Basquiat, Rene Ricard, John Ahearn, Richard
Mock, Bruce Nauman, Elizabeth Murray, Jenny Holzer, Cookie Mueller, Richard Prince, Kiki Smith, she was a part of the counter-culture artistic scene in the ?70s. Rifka was also a major figure of the No Wave movement.
Her work has been constant throughout her career; it is tense and agitated,
with vertiginous, wild lines.
