Artwork location: Mexico

My painting is joyful, full of life and vibrant. I paint nature and abstracts that are full of colour and rich forms and markings. My work is collected all around the globe and I am very grateful for that. I love what I do and have been a painter for almost 40 years! Now I also do weavings and love that equally. My paintings are done oil on canvas using oil paint and sometimes with oil stick and oil pastel. This painting is part of my sunset series and features abundant colour but also thick applications of oil paint. Layer by layer the image emerges. Sky, mountains, clouds. Edges are painted black and it is wired for hanging. Ready to Hang.

Jeff Ferst

Mexico  • 1955

I am a colourist and storyteller. My muse is my lovely colonial city and surrounding high desert, my garden and nature in general. My work draws on the essence of traditional landscape painting, an encounter with nature, and combines it with my emotional reactions. The result is a form of storytelling through abstraction that reflects physical reality and feelings intertwined.
My working process is a direct one, usually with no preliminary drawing. A canvas will develop as a spontaneous, free-flowing conversation between me and the painting, with the completed work the result of a very organic process.
The paintings are stories of my life. A canvas may reflect my interactions with nature and my garden and the beauty I see in that as well as my memories of locations I have visited and recorded and my emotions on the day that it is painted. There is a strong subconscious element to this work, with an image taking on a life of its own. These paintings are personal, expressive and musical, with their tactile use of oil paint applied with a brush, palette knife, and other tools utilizing a vibrant palette. They are textural and tactile.
Viewers are encouraged to make their own connection to the work, and to interpret it for themselves based on their own experiences and emotions. They are invited to resonate with the paintings' positive energy and to see something recognizable to themselves there.
