Work from the 66° series: ICELAND - The silences of the soul
This small-scale artwork features an Icelandic landscape, Herðubreið, a volcano located in the central-eastern part of the country, in the Highlands region. Often referred to as the "Queen of the Icelandic Mountains," Herðubreið reigns supreme in the Ódádahraun desert between Brædrafell mountain, the oasis of Herðubreiðarlindir, and the volcano Herðubreiðartötgl. This peak remains one of Iceland's most legendary peaks because it is difficult to access. In this work, the cool hues of the sky blend harmoniously with the earthy tones of the foreground, creating a striking contrast that immediately captivates the viewer. The fluid texture of the brushstrokes evokes an atmosphere of serenity and purity, amplified by the immaculate whiteness of the peak. Subtle shades of blue and gray depict a vast, endless sky, while earthy tones suggest a rocky, desert-like terrain. This painting is distinguished by its ability to convey a sense of both calm and natural grandeur. Mocas was born in 1972, she is a French artist. She has a bachelors degree in Visual arts from Sorbonne, following this she obtained an HND in interior architecture in Angouleme. She lives and works in Paris. While working as an artist, she taught applied art in the Department of education and was the director of the cultural service in Hauts de Seine from 2007 until 2010.
In a generous and passionate manner, Mocas overlays materials and colors and leans on informal painting. Through a range of colors and unfathomable strength, the famous artist celebrates light and darkness.
She received several awards during her career: laureate of the Beaux-Arts prize in 2015, painting prize from Fine Arts Rueil-Malmaison in 2005, painting prize at salons d’arts Hauts de Seine in 2004. She has done several exhibitions in galleries and fairs.
