Esplosioni di colore
Gli artisti hanno inventato i primi pigmenti più di 40.000 anni fa, utilizzando materiali naturali come terra, gesso o anche grasso animale. All'epoca, la tavolozza dei colori a disposizione degli artisti era limitata ai toni minerali (rosso, nero, bianco, ocra, ecc.). Da quel momento, i progressi artistici e scientifici hanno notevolmente ampliato le tavolozze dei colori.
Nella creazione contemporanea, gli artisti sfruttano tutti i toni che possono essere concepiti. C'è chi arriva addirittura ad adottarne di nuovi: si pensi al blu di Yves Klein e al Vantablack di Anish Kapoor... Molti gli artisti astratti hanno fatto del colore l'asse principale del loro lavoro, come il movimento Orfismo da Sonia e Robert Delaunay .
