Presentation

Lyndal Osborne says… “For over 35 years I worked primarily in printmaking and drawing. These works grow from my response to encounters in the natural world. Everyday encounters such as gardening during the summer months and daily walking through the fields and river valleys that border and penetrate the city where I live. I gathered objects that were used to create small maquettes as a direct response to my experience as observer, collector and gardener.
Creating these small sculptures often functioned like sketching in preparation for the layers of drawing that comprised my multi-coloured lithographs. While working physically to manipulate a small sculpture, I drew at the same time on a lithographic limestone. Each time a drawing was done it was etched on the stone and printed in one colour onto approximately 20 sheets of paper. This became the edition. The drawing was then removed from the stone through graining. Each time a fresh drawing was done it was printed in a new colour on top of the previous impression until an image emerged. The successive layers of colour (as many as 17 layers of drawing) were most often printed lithographically until the image was complete. Sometimes I included photographic fragments. In these prints I also included some screen-printed elements as some of the layers of construction.
These prints are about timelessness and regeneration with my need to define and humanize our existence on this planet".
